So last week, Metro public works decided to give out my cell phone number as a hotline for homelessness complaints. Apparently they pulled my info from the key alliance’s website thinking that i was an employee. It’s been good for me to realize some of the complaints that people have about homelessness. People would rather not see it.
But shielding our eyes from homelessness helps neither our neighbors nor ourselves. We have to be honest with ourselves. Just because we can’t see the homeless within our own neighborhood doesn’t mean we should keep ourselves from looking harder. When we learn that our edification rests in theirs is when we will truly be alive.
